Here are a few advanced tips for Ribbet experts and apprentices:
– Hold shift when resizing a shape to distort it
– When color selecting, click the small rectangle to the right of the color picker to then select a color from your photo!
– Right click on text, stickers, frames etc for more options including duplicate, bring to front and delete
– Use “Advanced Blend Modes” under the color picker to make text and stickers transparent, and use the color picker to change the color of stickers
– When using the “doodle” tool and other brush tools like “blemish fix”, use the [ and ] keys on the keyboard to change your brush size
– Use the photo basket to add custom textures to your photos by dragging items from the basket over your photo and then adjusting the “Advanced Blend Mode” and fade level
– Double-click the hex color code on the color picker (a 6 number/letter code like FFFFFF) to enter your own specific color code

Can I change the size of my collage? For instance I notice that all of them are square. I’d like to try and make a collage that I can have printed like an 8X10 photo. Can you help?
You sure can. Simply use the proportions slider down the bottom left when creating your collage. For 8×10 use either the 56:44 ratio or 44:56. After you’ve finished creating your collage you can trim off any slight excess by using the Crop tool and choosing 8×10 from the dropdown.
how do you get that ratio and what is the ratio for a 4×6 photo? what about a 5×6 photo?

The closest available radio (on the Proportions slider) to 8:10 is 44:56. For the image sizes you mentioned: for 4×6 you need 40:60 or 60:40 and for 5×6 you need approximately 45:55 or 55:45 (again this is the closest ratio to 5:6 available on the Proportions slider).

Hi Nichole, For 7.25×9.25″ use the proportions slider at 56:44 or 44:56. Note this proportion is valid for any collage templates that start off in a square shape. For other shapes you can watch the dimensions down the bottom right of the screen (to the top-right of the zoom bar), as you slide the proportions slider. You want the dimensions to be as close as possible to 1024×803 or 803×1024 (or for high resolution collages, 2400×1881 or 1881×2400). For your interest, this is calculated by 7.25 / 9.25 * 1024 (or * 2400).

Hi Jenn, To save your collage you click the “Done” button up the top right, then (after applying any effects/stickers/text/frames to your collage) click the “Save and Share” tab up the top right and finally the red “Save Photo” button.
How can i cut/clip photos on Ribbet? I can’t find it anywhere, but everyone is making edits with clipped photos and saying that they were clipped on Ribbet.
Hi Emily, do you mean crop photos (ie. cut/clip the sides of the photo)? If so, you can achieve this by going to Basic Edits > Crop, and then dragging the corners of the rectangle that appears to suit the cropping you desire.

Hi Miranda, Thanks for contacting us! First open up the background image, and then upload and drag on your foreground image (with the person on it) from the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor. Re-size and re-position the image, and then use the Eraser tool to erase everything from the photo except the person. We have a brief demo video which demonstrates how this is done.
Is there a way to save the collages at a higher resolution? say 300 dpi for example?
Hi Michael. Yes you can achieve this. Firstly make sure you are registered. Then in your account settings (click your username on the top bar) change your Image Quality setting to “Archival”. Now, when creating a collage change the Normal/High toggle to High (this is on the settings bar, above the collage to the right). Your collage will now be up to 3600×3600 pixels, which is 300dpi when printing at 12″ x 12″ or even higher when printing smaller than this.
How would I make a transparent backround?
Hi Greg, For collages you can make the background transparent by clicking the Transparent Border checkbox (to the bottom left when creating your collage). You can also create a Blank Canvas with a transparent background from the Library > Start tab and then drag on images from the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor). You can then erase areas from any photo you drag on using the Eraser tool on the Photo Properties dialog that appears when clicking the photo:
When finished, make sure you save your image in PNG format (the option is on the save screen) in order to maintain the transparency.

Hi Alison, At this point it is necessary to crop the image first. Once you do this though, when building your collage you can select “History” in the photo basket’s drop-down and drag your cropped image straight from there.
Hello from frozen Minnesota – 4+ above this morning.
I enjoyed using your software to correct a photo before emailing it out to family after the usual Christmas photos and one of the grandchildren needing to be cropped off one edge.
Here is the deal and question. First, I had brain surgery two years ago and now editing, typing or any work on the computer takes three to five times longer to complete. I need to read instructions, make the “linkages”, do the work, and save that work on extra local hard drives. Bummer.
I like your software! Flat out it appears that I can use it to be my main photo editing engine for that ever feared “Family History Project”! I know that this is going to be a bigger pain in the neck than writing my double Masters’ research for telecommunications.
Please provide some guidance of where I need to start reading about using your software and practicing to edit various family photos I have scanned. I have a grans assortment of tin types, black & whites, pin hole cameras, professional photography work that was had colored in (my parents wartime wedding photos), slides that can be converted to electronic images. Just everything in every image format.
This collection is from around the world, both personal and military travels for three generations within the family. Lots of retuning the final prints. Regardless, I have the time, four different types of scanners, three different types of photo printers and unlimited hours to work on this project.
I do not worry about any expense to be requested for basic programs, enhancements or upgrades. That is always part of keeping a quality program running.

Please could you tell me whether a high res photograph looses any resolution if accessed on line and edited with Ribbet, and then saved to my computer. I have set archival quality and save to highest res possible within Ribbet. Is there any other deterioration? Do professional photographers use Ribbet, and then proceed to sell their work?
Also, on some uploads and some edits, line(s) in images “break up” into slightly jagged lines. Also photos taken as screen grabs from TV can show image breakup when uploaded. However these defects disappear when picture is saved back to computer or put on flickr.

Once you’ve set archival quality in your preferences, you will not lose any quality on photos up to 16 megapixels. Photos over 16 megapixels will be reduced to this size, however this decrease will not be noticeable for most purposes, including high quality printing at sizes up to and sometimes larger than 22×32 inches.
There are absolutely professional photographers who use Ribbet and sell their work, particular wedding photographers, professional bloggers and web designers.
There shouldn’t be any “break up” in your images whatsoever. If you continue to experience this problem send us a quick note here and we’ll look into resolving the problem for you.
Hello from Colorado. First, I want to say I am SO excited that I found Ribbet. I was a HUGE Picnik fan…you all are the closest I’ve found. Now I’m a even bigger Ribbet fan! I’m wanting to know how I might go about…

Hi Shannon, Thanks for the positive feedback! Both of these effects are possible. For the focal point of color use “Focal B&W” which is about half way down on the Effects tab. For a single point of focus, you can use “Fancy Focus” which is directly below Focal B&W.
Learned about Ribbet today through Net Net Tricks Newsletter by Jack Teems. I found Piknik a bit awkward but find Ribbet to be very attractive and agile. However, I have been unable to find out how to accomplish the following: In an aerial photo I would like to can outline an object or place a fine arrow at an angle which points accurately to an object. Hi KimA, Thanks for the positive feedback! There are a few ways to achieve what you’re trying to do. The simplest is to use the “Basic Shapes” on the Stickers Tab. You can drag on an arrow, and you can rotate and resize it (hold shift down while resizing to distort it). You can also change the sticker’s color. You could also annotate using a Speech Bubble or Geometric Shape (above and below Basic Shapes) in combination with some text.
Your other alternative is to find an arrow you like using Google Images, save it to your computer, and then add it to your photo using the Photo Basket.

i am trying to make a collage, but some of the images that I am using don’t fit into the designated collage boxes. Is there a way that I can zoom out on photos within a collage box? Or, how else can I make them fit?
Hi Robin, Currently the images you add to a collage can’t be zoomed and default to completely zoomed out. The options you have to make them better fit are:
– Use the “Proportions Slider” to find a better ratio for the collage images
– Use Ribbet to crop images before creating the collage (first option on the Basic Edits tab), and then use these images when creating your collage by selecting “History” in the photo basket drop-down
– You can also move images left, right, up or down by dragging them once placed on the collage
I too loved Picnik and was very sad that it closed down. I wish I had known about Ribbet sooner!
Following on Robin Ann’s question – I think this is really an issue that needs to be addressed, I don’t understand why it is not possible to zoom out on the individual photos in the collage to include more of the original photo. PLEASE techy people work on this.

Can I create a more customized collage? So instead of an even amount of columns, can I do 2 pictures on the top and 3 pictures below? If so, how could I create that?

Hi Shar, This is an excellent suggestion and isn’t something that you can currently do. You can use the photo basket to manually put together a collage but that would be difficult to get perfect. The ability to do what you’re suggesting is something we’ll look at including in a future version.
I have a question about the collages: Sometimes I put together a collage, click “done”, and start adding stickers and text. Then I realize that I need to add another photo or take one out of the collage. How do I go back to the collage editing window after I’ve already clicked “done”?

Hi Dan,
Yes there are 2 ways to do this. The easiest way is to use the Doodle effect which can be found towards the end of the Effects Tab. You can use this to paint white over the areas of different white tones.
The other way is using the Eraser Tool: see written instructions and demo video. For this method you will need to be signed into Ribbet, and will need to drag on a new layer to erase from. If you like you can start with a Blank Canvas, and then drag on the image (from the photo basket) that you want to erase from.

Hi Ashlyn! There are a few ways to do this. You can use Fancy Focus, Focal Soften or Focal Zoom which are all a little past half way on the Effects Tab, and click on the center of your main subject. Or, you can use the Blur effect which is towards the end of the Effects Tab. With Blur you can paint the precise area of your main subject into focus (by dragging over the subject with your mouse button down).
Each of these effects will have a different result and the only way to know which one is best for you is to try them out on your photo.

Hi Morgan, There are a few different ways to achieve this depending on the object, but in general an easy way to do this is to use the Doodle Effect which can be found towards the end of the Effects Tab. Choose your color and change the Advanced Modes to Multiply. After painting on the effect (hold down the mouse button and drag over your photo), you can adjust the Fade level to make the coloring more subtle if necessary.

Hi Abdullah, To zoom, adjust the slider which is down the bottom right of the screen. To crop your image permanently, use the Crop tool on the Basic Edits tab.

I have two photos and am using the blank canvas. I want to keep ONE photo going straight up and down, BUT want to slightly TILT/ Twist the 2nd photo. I don’t want to make them both “krazy”. Is this even possible to do?!?

Hi Dan, Yes you can do this by using the Doodle effect which is towards the end of the Effects tab. Click the color selector on this effect, and you can then “pick” a color from your photo. You can then use the tool to even out the background by painting onto it.
The other thing you can do is to use the Clone tool on the Advanced tab to clone the background from a flatter area over the area you want affected.

Hi Dan, Yes use the Pro Editor tool on the Advanced tab. Choose the Pixlr Editor. Next use the Eye dropper icon to select the color from your photo, and then the Paint bucket icon to fill an area. You can adjust the Paint bucket tool’s tolerance and other settings along the top of the screen. Once you’re done click the File menu and Save back to Ribbet.

Hi Dan, The Eye dropper icon I mentioned is within the Pixlr Editor on the left toolbar and is the 2nd from the bottom on the left. When hovering your mouse over the tool it says “Colorpicker Tool” and it can also be reached by hitting i on your keyboard.

Hi Dan, You should be able to fill only areas of similar color. If all the areas are too close in color then this could be a problem. You can then try using the Lasso Tool or the Magic Wand Tool to select areas before filling them. This video outlines the different Pixlr selection tools available and how to use them.

Hi Melody, Yes that’s possible. The easiest way to do this is to paint over the background using the Doodle Tool which is towards the end of the Effects tab. Adjust the brush size and hardness in order to get a realistic effect.

Hi shagufta, We don’t currently have flags to add to your photo, except for the USA flag frame. You can always find a flag on Google images and then use the Photo Basket to add it to your photo.

Hi Emily, Yes, with the Archival setting on your photos will remain at up to 16 megapixels, which is large enough for poster-size printing.

Hi Theresa. Yes, you can drag on a new image from the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor, and then use the Eraser Tool to erase areas from the picture you dragged on. To combine two pictures to make it look like one, first start editing the background image and then use the same steps just described to drag on and erase areas from the 2nd image.

Is it possible to insert the hex code for a color that doesn’t come up in your color chart? I want to get my border frame in ffffee to match the background of my newsletter, but I seem to be unable to change the letters that appear in the little box. The closest color is ffffcc. Can I change that?
Hi Diane, Yes there are 2 ways of doing this. Firstly when selecting the color for the frame you can pick the color from your image (in this case the background of your newsletter) by clicking the area you want to take the color from. Secondly you should be able to type directly into the hex color box. Try selecting the text within this box and then typing over the selection.
For the first way, do you mean click the color in the newsletter’s background? But when I’m in Ribbet, I don’t have the background there, just the photo I’m framing. The second method of typing the hex code into the box is the method I’ve used in the past but now it won’t work. I just tried it again and it still won’t work. Is there possibly something wrong with the box?
Hi Diane, That is what I meant by the first way, but it sounds like that’s not going to work here. If the hex box doesn’t end up working for you, you could try dragging on an image with the newsletter background (from the photo basket), pick the color from that when applying the border, and then delete the dragged on image after applying.
I’m not sure why the hex box isn’t working for you. In my tests, I’ve managed to use it on every different browser. You should be able to simply clear out the box and re-enter the code, but it sounds like there could very well be an issue on the particular browser/flash version combination you’re using, that is preventing this from working. You could try a different browser to see if that helps or the workaround I’ve suggested above. If it continues to be a problem for you please let us know and I’ll do my best to sort it out with you over email.

Hi Brooke, What are you having trouble with exactly? Is it matching the sizes or just getting started? The dimensions needed for Twitter graphics can be seen here:
You can match these dimensions by creating a Blank Canvas (go to Library > Start) or by resizing/cropping your photo.
Is there a way I can ‘erase’ an object outta the background without having to doodle? I took some family photos outside by this gorgeous pond but now can’t figure out how to remove the campers in the background that I couldn’t avoid. I normally would use doodle; but I don’t wanna have to remove the trees or water for this one.
Hi Ashley, The best way to achieve this is to use the Clone tool on the Pro tab to clone nearby areas of the photo over the top of the objects you want to delete. So if the campers are surrounded by trees, you would first click part of the tree near the campers, and then paint over the top of them so that they are replaced by a clone of the trees. By carefully selecting your brush size and the area to clone from, you should be able to make the background continue as though the objects you’re removing were never there.

Hi Brooke, I couldn’t find the WWE-Graphics Twitter header. Is this it, because I can’t see any special effects on it? To combine two photos you can start by uploading one, drag another on from the Photo Basket and then use the Eraser Tool to delete areas from the photo you dragged on. Is there a way to save a design I’m working on, so that I can work on something else, but then come back to the first design later to edit it further without saving to my computer and having all of the elements combined?
Sometimes I’ll create a design for a webpage, but then need to change one little element, but I closed the design out already. Then I end up having to re-create everything all over again just to change one little part.

Hi Laura, Yes there is. For all registered users your editing history can be found under the Library tab > History. Any image opened from here is completely editable. It is necessary to save the file to your computer in order to have it go to history, but you can delete this file and the history item will remain within your Library.

Hi Maggie, You can achieve this if you created the captions as a registered Ribbet user. If you did, head to the Library > History tab and open up the edited photo with the captions. Next using the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the screen), upload and then drag on the new photo. Resize it to as large as you require, and then right-click on it and choose “Send to Back” (to send it behind all the text).
Is there a way to crop a photo into a circle shape without using the eraser tool? Sometimes it’s gets messy if you don’t have a steady hand and you can end up deleting part of the image that you wanted to keep?
Hi Candace, You can try the Rounded Edges frame on the Frames tab. Change the Corner Radius slider all the way to the right and this should give you the effect you’re after.

What is the best way to create a rain or sweat splatter? I am trying to add to a running football photo for a poster. It could even be speed blur on the edge of the uniform.
Hi Max, For a speed blur try the Blur effect (about 3/4 way down the Effects tab). On the little Effect Painting popup that appears, click Reverse Effect and then paint the effect on the edge of the uniform. Set the Vertical blur to 0 and increase the Horizontal blur. Creating a rain or sweat splatter is something far more tricky and if the motion blur does the trick, I’d stick with that.

Hi Fatima, To achieve this go to Effects > Black and White (the first effect) and before clicking the Apply button, paint the areas you want to keep in color. You can adjust the Brush size and Brush hardness on the small Effect Painting dialog that appears.

Hi Krista, As this isn’t a preset you’ll need to use the Crop tool and manually enter the dimensions. Let us know the dimensions of your image (you can find them by looking down the bottom right in the Zoom Box in Ribbet) and we’ll let you know what dimensions to crop to.
Is it possible to erase a shadow on a photo?
Hi Annette, It is possible to erase a shadow. There are a number of ways to do this, and different techniques are more effective on different photos. One way is to use the Touch-ups tab > Dodging effect to paint over the dark area in order to lighten it. You can release your mouse button and paint over the area again in order to lighten it more. Another technique is to use the Pro tab > Clone tool to clone a nearby area over the shadow in order to remove it. This second technique will be more effective on smaller areas of shadow.
I just found and started using this excellent program! I’ve been looking for something for a long time: functional and easy to use.
I am having one problem. How can I create a box (square, rectabgle, etc.) to put my text in and fill the box in a contrasting color? i.e White Text on black background.
I’m sure there’s a way but I haven’t been able to find it.

Can I change my eye color? If so how do I do it

It says click and drag over your eyes to change color. Nothing seems to be happening. As a matter of fact when I pick any tab such as sunless tan, I click and drag and it doesn’t work. I just started using ribbet today and I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Please help!! thanks in advance
Hi Penny, Some effects (in particular Sunless Tan) are quite subtle and the changes may not be immediately apparent. For Sunless Tan, you can try increasing Color Strength and Darken to make the effect more intense. For changing eye color, it can also be subtle if the eyes are of a dark color to begin with. You can reduce the Fade setting to make the eye color change more intense.
If you feel that the effects are doing nothing at all (not even anything subtle), try closing down your web browser completely and re-launching Ribbet, as this restarts Flash (which Ribbet runs on) and will most likely fix any strange issues such as effects not working. Hi Sarah, To crop into a circle try using the Frames tab > Round Edges effect, and setting the Corner Radius to 100%. You can optionally make the background transparent. To delete the background of an image, try the Effects tab > Doodle tool (towards the end of the page). This will allow you to paint over any area with a flat color (which you can “pick” from your image by clicking the Color selector and then clicking on your image). Let us know if this doesn’t solve either of your requests!
How do I create several lines of text, rather than a single line?

I love Ribbet and use it for all the photos in my articles. One of the things I would love to be able to do is add my own “Stickers”. You’ve got a good selection, but there are some I would love to add. Sometimes I want to add tomatoes. I have a large following for Canadians and have dubbed them “Torontoes.” If I could upload a picture of a tomato, I could customize the frame or create a logo. Sometimes in social situations, I find the room to be bland. I could add a mirror ball to the ceiling if I could upload. Or I could upload the club insignia for a dance club and it would really be appreciated by those readers. It is something I think we would all enjoy using. thanx.
Hi iTwirl Round, Thanks for contacting us! By using the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor, you can in fact add your own stickers and watermarks. Upload a transparent .PNG file to the basket and you can then drag it onto your image, resize it and position it. If you don’t have the image you’re after in transparent .PNG format (although a lot are available on Google Images), you can always use a regular image and then change the Advanced Blend Mode on the dialog that appears after dragging on your image (cycle through them until you find one that works best) to make your image transparent. Can’t get stickers to move

Hi! I recently made a beautiful watermark for my new photography business through Ribbet. I have tried to apply it to my images, and a white background still shows up event though I made it on a transparent background. I looooove the watermark that I made, and I followed all of the right steps, but when I pull it up in Photoshop, the background still shows up white! Help please 🙂 Thank you!!
Hi Johhna, Thanks for contacting us! In order to preserve the transparency on your image, it’s necessary to save with the format PNG selected (not the default, which is JPG). This is due to the fact that the JPG format doesn’t support transparency. You should find that saving with PNG selected should resolve your issue.

This is due to a current limitation in how the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor) handles ‘History‘ items. Currently transparency isn’t supported.
You can however work around this, by first opening up your watermark (from the Library > History tab), then save it in PNG format to your computer, and lastly re-upload it to Ribbet. You can then drag it on from the Photo Basket (but choose ‘Get From Computer‘ rather than ‘History‘ in the dropdown), and transparency will be maintained.

Is there a way that you can do the true vintage application and have it behind the photo rather than on top of it. There is no eraser function so I am trying to figure out the best way to get the vintage behind the subject matter.
Hi Collette, Thanks for contacting us! Currently you can’t erase from the True Vintage filter, however there is a way to erase from the texture that this effect applies. To achieve this, first click the Apply button on the True Vintage effect, and then click on your picture. A Frame Properties dialog will appear with an Eraser icon. By clicking this icon you can then erase areas of texture from the photo. Hope that’s of some help to you.
Great thanks. Is there a way to get a vintage texture, then apply the image over that. In Picnik, you could take two photos and merge into one with a sliding scale that would allow you to adjust the strength of one over the other.
Hi Collette, Yes this is possible. To do this, first find out the dimensions of your image by opening it in Ribbet, and looking down the bottom right in the Zoom Box. It will be for example 1024×768. Next create a Blank Canvas from the Library > Start tab and use these dimensions. Now apply the True Vintage effect. Lastly, drag on your image from the Photo Basket (at the very bottom of the editor). Right-click the image and select Original Size, and then position it on the canvas. You can fade, and erase from this image using the Photo Properties dialog that will appear. Let us know if you have any further questions!

Is there a way to clone a face from one picture to another. I have some group families from a family reunion and in one you can see the girl’s face, but in the next you cannot. The one where you see her face someone else is not in a great position. I would like to put her face in the good picture if possible. Thanks

You will need to zoom one of the images (by first clicking on it and then moving the Zoom slider) so that the head you want to copy across is the correct size (in relation to the other photo). Set the Spacing to 0 (down the bottom left) and the Quality to high (up the top right). Click Done and then use the Pro tab > Clone tool. First click on the head from the old photo, and then click and drag where you’d like to copy the head. Lastly use the Basic Edits > Crop tool to crop out the unwanted image. Thanks for the tips. The only thing I haven’t figured out is how to take it back to only one picture again. It also cut out some of the other people from the sides of the picture.
Hi Julie, To resolve the cropping of some people from the sides of the picture, you need to start over (or Undo until you’re back in Collage mode) and adjust the Proportions slider (down the bottom left) until the photo is correctly proportioned and includes everyone.
To take it back to one picture, head to the Basic Edits tab and use the Crop tool to crop out everything except the original picture.

When using the Doodle tool you can actually select a color from your photo by first clicking the Color selector and then clicking on your image. I am wondering, i’m trying to make a ‘card’which consists of a backround and a differen layer of pictures, I originally edited the pictures to have transparent rounded corners, but when I add them I can see the white corners that aren’t supposed to be there, the pictures can not be blended in by using any of the advanced blending tools becuase my pictures then won’t be visible (the background is rather dark. The workaround to this is to re-upload the transparent PNGs from your computer to the Photo Basket. They will then maintain their transparency. I love this website its awesome when I am editing photos but I am stuck on something. How do I make my picture, that I cropped parts out of on this website, to be an actual 4×6 photo that just prints out that exact size you need for a photo frame? Thanks!
Hi Sam, Thanks for contacting us! To print at 4×6, first use the Basic Edits tab > Crop tool with the Constraints dropdown set to 4 x 6 to crop your image. This will ensure that the photo will exactly fit the printed page, and that nothing undesirable will be cropped when printing. Next click the top center Save tab. From here you can save to your computer and then print (using a program on your computer) or you can try the Print Photo tab (below and to the right of the Ribbet logo) with 4 x 6 selected in the Photo Size dropdown. The key to having the image fit the paper perfectly, lies in ensuring that the correct paper size (4 x 6) is selected in your system’s printer preferences dialog. A friend recommended your site as a possible tool to add a watermark to some photos.
I’ve created my watermark and saved it to my computer, but now I can’t find how to pull up another photo and add this as an overlay. I’m sure it’s an easy process, but don’t see it as an option.

Hi Jeannine, Thanks for contacting us! There are a number of things you can do to optimize quality within Ribbet:
– Make sure you’re registered for a Ribbet account, and then go into your Ribbet settings by clicking Hi username! on the top right toolbar. Scroll down to Image quality and change the setting to Archival. From that point onward, all edited images will maintain the maximum supported resolution.
– The other setting that will affect the quality of the image is the Quality slider which can be set just before saving. A quality of 8 is optimal for most purposes, but 10 is the maximum and will result in a very large file size. You can also change the Format dropdown to PNG, which will result in an image file of full quality.

You can use the Pro tab > Pro Editor tool > Pixlr Editor and then click the Paint Bucket icon and select your new background color in the large black rectangle at the bottom of the toolbar. Next click on the old background color on your image. It should fill nicely, otherwise click the Edit menu > Undo, change the Tolerance (up on the top toolbar) and try again until you find the correct tolerance. First you need to ensure your PNG logo has a transparent background. If it already does then skip this first group of steps, otherwise:
– Open the logo
– Go to the Pro tab > Pro Editor tool > Pixlr editor
– Double click the padlock on the Layers panel (next to the Background layer)
– Now click the Magic Wand tool (3rd icon from the top on the left of the toolbar)
– Click the background, and then the Delete key on your keyboard (or alternatively you can use the Edit > Clear menu)
– As with our previous post, you may need to Undo and adjust the Tolerance
– When you’ve cleared out the background completely use File > Save… menu but this time select My Computer and then PNG format
Now that you have the transparent PNG logo on your computer:
– Open up the background image (the image you want to use for the logo fill)
– Now upload the transparent PNG logo (from the previous steps) to the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor, and drag it onto your image
– Resize the logo and you may also want to use the Basic Edits > Crop tool to crop the image to fit the logo

Next for galaxy overlays you can head to the Seasonal tab > NASA Shuttle Launch > Space Textures and select a texture for overlay. Alternatively you can upload an image to the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor) and drag it on top of the silhouette. I want to make some png files with just text. When I do this I can only get the text to enlarge to 250. That is not large enough for a lot of my projects. I tried starting with a transparent box of 3000 x 3000. Then add the text. I have tried using a much smaller canvas to begin with and have the same problem. Actually, I can never get the text to become larger than 250. The box surrounding the text gets larger but the text stays the same size. Whether I am adding text to a photo or just trying to make a png file. What am I doing wrong?
Hi mthielke, Thanks for contacting us and sorry that you’ve run into this issue! This is a bug which is affecting the Google Chrome browser, and the Global font or fonts used from your computer. We will resolve this in a future Ribbet version, but as a workaround for now you can either use one of the fonts in the font list (other than Global), or, you can use Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer instead of Chrome, and you should then be able to resize any font to any size. Let us know if we can be of any further assistance!

Hi Martin, Thanks for contacting us! To achieve this, navigate to the Library > Start tab, and from there create a Blank Canvas. You will need to use the dimensions 3361 x 4757. This is Ribbet’s maximum supported resolution for A1, and will support printing at 144DPI (at A1). You will need to double-check with your print company that this is sufficient quality for them to print at (it should be). There are no other settings that you need to change. Just found ribbet & wow, I really appreciate how simple it is to use. I uploaded a picture and ‘posterized’ it for a fabric portrait project. What I need to do is print that picture on two letter-sized pages with one half the image on each page so i can tape them together & get a 17″ x 22″ picture. Is that do-able?

Thanks for contacting us! There are a couple of ways of achieving this. The most straightforward would be:
1. Use the Basic Edits tab > Crop tool with the Constraints dropdown set to 11×17.
2. Crop the image to include the first half.
3. Save, and then choose Continue Editing and Undo the crop.
Now repeat for the second half.
Instead of Saving in the 3rd step you could choose Print Photo (which is a sub-tab of Save) and try printing directly from Ribbet, or you could just print from your computer once saved.

Yes, you can achieve this by firstly creating a Blank Canvas with the transparent checkbox ticked. Next upload and drag on the photo of the apple from the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor. Click the apple photo and a Photo Properties dialog will appear with an eraser tool on it.
Once you’ve finished your image, save it in PNG format in order to maintain the transparency of the apple. You’ll need to then upload this PNG file to the Photo Basket in order to add it over other images.

You’re welcome. Yes, to print at 300DPI (which is high quality) you simple need to multiply each side by 300. So 300×5.44=1632 and 300×2.64=792 and therefore the required dimensions are 1632×792.

I am creating a bunch of posters with the same text on them. Is there any way I can save the text and just switch the photo backgrounds, instead of retyping and formatting with every photo upload? Thanks!

Yes, you can achieve this by firstly creating your first poster and then saving it. Then, for each poster you’ll need to open the original poster from the Library > History tab. Then upload and drag on your new image from the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor). Then, to move your new image behind the text, you’ll need to right mouse-click it (or click while holding the Ctrl key on Mac) and then choose Send to Back from the menu which appears.

Is there any way to go back and change/alter an effect /other/ than using Undo? For instance, I applied a Boost filter, but when looking at the saved finished product, realized that it was a bit much and should be toned down. I have the saved photo on my account, so I’d be able to go back and edit it. Is there any way to retroactively change that?

Hi Anthony! To create a straight line, you can add a rectangle sticker from the Geometric Shapes sticker group (about 2 pages from the top of the Stickers tab), and then resize it to be as thin as possible.

also, is there a way to make a curved line?
Although currently there aren’t any stickers which are specifically curved lines, you can upload your own curved line image to the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor) and then drag it onto your image for use as a sticker.
Using a Google image search such as this one you can find transparent curved line images. When you click on one of the results from this search you can tell if it’s transparent because it will display with a checkerboard background. Once you’ve found your image you can save it to your computer and then upload it to the Photo Basket.

I have looked on the site and have not been able to find a way to create a water mark for the pictures I edit. I take the pictures to begin with as well. I would really appreciate your response as these pictures need to be done in 2 days for a birthday party!

You can add a watermark by uploading it to the Photo Basket (at the bottom of the editor). This will normally be a transparent PNG image, but you can use any image type. You can then optionally Fade the watermark, or use the Advanced Blend Modes (on the Photo Properties dialog which appears) to make your watermark blend with the main image.

Yes, you can do this in one of two ways:
1. You can use the Effects tab > Doodle tool (towards the end of the page) to paint over the words on your image. You can click the color selector box within this tool, and then click anywhere on your image to “pick” a color from your image that you’d like to use.
2. Or, you can use the Pro tab > Clone tool for more complex backgrounds. First select an area near the word to copy from, and then paint over it.

I’ve been trying to use the teeth whitening feature. I choose a brush size, click and drag on my teeth but nothing happens. It’s not marked as a premium feature so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

Clicking and dragging is all that’s required, and no Premium subscription is required. The effect is subtle, but you can click and drag multiple times to intensify it. If you still don’t see any improvement, try exiting your web browser completely and then re-launching Ribbet. This will restart Flash which may resolve the issue.

How do you get Ribbet to stop changing the number of boxes back to the number of photos you Have? I would like to have a few boxes in my collage for text.

Thanks for contacting us! Leaving boxes blank should be as simple as not dragging images onto them. If you’ve already dragged on an image, or used Auto-fill, you can always remove images by clicking the Cross icon (which appears when you hover to the top right of a cell) to remove the image from the cell.

I am trying to put many texts and objects in a project and for some reason next to the pointer is a gear shape (maybe to merge photo) which i don’t want to do yet and it won’t let me do anything else to move forward. Is it slowing down because there are too many objects and it needs to be merged? I can’t finish my project without that gear shape! Very frustrating! Please help!
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for contacting us and I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve run into this issue! Working with large numbers of text/objects can really slow things down, and this is something we are going to optimize in the near future. In the meantime you can hopefully move forward by at some point saving your image and re-uploading it to Ribbet. This will completely flatten out the image and allow you to move forward with more changes, but will obviously mean that you can’t undo back further than that point in time. Does that help? I was wondering if I can remove an object in a picture, like a garbage bin?

Thanks for contacting us! Yes, you can achieve this with Ribbet. The best way to do this is to use the Pro tab > Clone tool to clone a nearby area of your photo over the garbage bin.
Start by zooming into the relevant area of your photo, open the Clone tool and then select the “Source” area from your photo by clicking on it (this is the area you will copy over the garbage bin and should be what you’d expect to be in the place of the bin, such as some sidewalk or a wall etc). You can then copy this area by painting over the garbage bin. With a little practice you can achieve a very realistic result.

Hi Anthony! You can load your own fonts by clicking the LOAD MY FONTS button at the very bottom of the font list. Note that if you’ve recently installed the font, you may have to restart your web browser before it will appear in the list.

Can I edit my picture to be in inches instead of pixels
Hi Fran! Do you mean to resize to a particular size in inches? If so, the way to convert from inches to pixels is to multiple both width and height by the DPI (dots per inch) you need. Ive seen another person crop out a image and remove the background, how is this down I can’t seem to find anything that seems to do this.

If you want to just replace the background with a flat color (e.g. white or black), you can do this by painting over it with the Effects tab > Sketch tool.
If you want a new background (from a different photo): First open up the new background image, and then upload and drag on your foreground image (with the person on it) from the Photo Basket at the bottom of the editor. Re-size and re-position the image, and then use the Eraser tool to erase everything from the photo except the person. We have a brief demo video which demonstrates how this is done.

How do I add a realistic rainbow to a nature picture?

If you find a rainbow image you like that’s a transparent PNG (for example some of these images) then you can add it on top of your image.
This can be done by uploading and then dragging the rainbow image on from the My Photos tab on the left bar of the browser-based version of Ribbet, or from the Photo Basket at the bottom of the program version.
In the program version you can also adjust the “Advanced Blend Modes” which appear in the Photo Properties dialog when clicking the rainbow. This can make it look more realistic. This feature will be coming to the browser-based version in the future.
