Hi Connie,

Thanks for contacting us. With Focal Soften, I suggest trying to increase the Focal Size slider, and then reposition the focal point by dragging on your image.

If you still can’t achieve the result you want, you can use the Blur effect (about a page down from Focal Soften) and with this effect you can paint your image to bring back in sharpness.

Let us know if you need any further assistance!

I am trying to use your blur tool but it will not blur the background. I looked at your instructions but although they say it is pretty straightforward I am not able to make this tool work. Can someone please provide me with some instructions please.

Hi Maureen,

Thanks for reaching out to us! To use the Blur tool, first try increasing the Horizontal and Vertical Blur sliders until the blur is sufficient. You can then remove the blur from the foreground by painting over it with your mouse (keep the mouse button held). You may wish to increase the Brush size on the Effect Painting dialog (which will appear up the top left of your image when in this tool, as long as the Brush icon to the right of the Fade slider is down) in order to remove this blur more quickly.

Let us know if you have any other questions!
