When trying to add text to a photo the font “box” is empty…I registered and still no font options…what am I doing wrong?

You’re not missing anything. Font options should be available for registered and unregistered users and there’s nothing special you should need to do.
So basically is the problem you are experiencing that you click “Text” from the top menu bar, and then you can see “Type here and click Add to place text” but then there is no font list under the “Add” and “Delete” buttons?
